Ingredients You Need to Make Buttered Popcorn Scented Playdough

  • 1 cup flour, divided
  • 1/2 cup salt, divided
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar, divided
  • 1 cup warm water, divided
  • 2 teaspoons coconut oil (or vegetable oil), divided
  • 1/2 teaspoon popcorn flavoring oil
  • Food colorings – yellow and green
  • Candy Corn for Sensory play

How To Make Buttered Popcorn Playdough

Make Two Batches, One with Yellow Food Coloring and One with Green Food Coloring

Add 1/2 cup flour, 1/4 cup salt, and 1 teaspoon cream of tartar to a mixing bowl and whisk to combine. 

Place 1/2 cup water and 1 teaspoon oil into a medium saucepan.  Add the popcorn flavoring oil and 3-4 drops of either the yellow or green food coloring.  Stir well to distribute. 

Pour the flour mixture into the water, a little at a time, and whisk until the lumps are dissolved. 

Place saucepan on stovetop under medium heat.  Stir continuously until a large ball of dough forms.  Remove from heat and cool for 5 minutes. 

Knead with your hands for about 5 minutes until soft and pliable.  Store in an airtight plastic bag for up to 1 month.

Sensory and Motor Play Tip for Playdough

Shape the yellow playdough into the shape of a large corn cob.  Create husks on both sides with the green playdough.  Place candy corn all over the corn cob.
