3 Trimmings That Make A Home Seem More Expensive

What makes a home seem more expensive and valuable? It’s not always clear, past the obvious considerations we may point to, like having a large pool or luxury installations that other properties won’t.

But if you’re in the interest of selling, of development, or you just want to make a household look its utter best, going for utter quality, and thus raising the perceived value, isn’t a bad place to start.

Moreover, it’s a good thought exercise. After all, expense is not necessarily tied to taste, but it’s good to balance them both. You don’t need any gold trimmings or toilets here to show your design insight and capability.

In this post, we’ll discuss some of the most common tricks and investments household developers use to make a home seem more expensive and confident in itself. Think of it like investing in a suit or dress and having it fitted before attending an event, even if the event is just giving you years of comfortable living and great memories:

Beautiful Window Coverings

Windows are among the first things people notice when they walk into a room, so having decent coverings helps the space look more carefully designed. Cheap curtains that don’t fit properly or basic blinds from the hardware shop can make an otherwise nice room feel budget, so it’s best to use custom window coverings that fit.

You want something that frames the wall tone correctly and looks deliberate. Curtains that go all the way to the floor tend to look more expensive than shorter ones, and hanging them a bit higher than the actual window makes your ceilings look taller. The fabric doesn’t need to be the most expensive in the world, but it should feel substantial when you touch it.

Quality Door Hardware

Most people don’t think about door handles until they use a really good one or a really bad one. If you have flimsy handles that feel loose or cheap immediately tell you something about the rest of the house, and you may wonder what else is in a state of disrepair, unfortunately.

Good hardware feels solid in your hand and works smoothly every time you use it. Go for stronger knockers or knobs with good quality polished metal or stainless, that are installed with easy access. You can even go for brass or cast iron knockers outside if you want a more regal touch. If using wood make sure it’s varnished to a shine and complements the door material capably.

Proper Lighting Design

A single ceiling light in the middle of a room makes everything look flat and uninspiring, no matter how nice your furniture is. Good lighting comes from multiple sources at different heights, which gives you depth and makes the space feel more interesting to be in.

We’d recommend considering the flattering use of table lamps, floor lamps, and wall lights,as all contribute to making a room feel warm and well thought out.. Wall fixtures can seem lush, as can those embedded into furnishings or near them, such as a gentle reading spotlight or lamp near an armchair.

With this advice, we hope you can more easily make that home seem more expensive, and that you’ll benefit as a result.
