With schools closed and most of us staying home due to the pandemic, Free Online Learning Resources are vital for kids right now and so many amazing businesses have stepped up to offer some great educational games, lessons, and classes.

Most schools have been closed for weeks and have transitioned to distance learning for the rest of the school year. So what is a parent to do? We want our kids to continue learning and exploring regardless of whether or not we can actually leave the house right? Not to worry! Here you will find a list of educational resources and more to help keep your kids learning and exploring right from the comfort of your own home, and the best part is they are all FREE! 

List of Online Learning Resources for Kids that are Free

Arcademics

Arcademics is a video arcade full of multi-player educational games for grades 1 through 6. The games are separated by both subject and grade level so that you can find the appropriate activities for your child. Your kids will love practicing their typing, math, spelling, geography, and language arts skills as they compete with other players for the highest score. 

Crayola

Crayola might be the first website you think of when it comes to printable coloring pages and colorful art projects, but it probably isn’t your go-to website for other instructional materials. However, they do have a wide range of lesson plans for children from pre-k to twelfth grade. Each lesson plan describes how to relate the project to a variety of different subjects and comes with a lesson plan, instructions, and a supply list. The lessons are categorized by subject, grade level, and subtopic, and you can find lessons on math, language arts, science, social studies, and STEM. 

Scholastic Learn at Home

The Scholastic Learn at Home website provides daily lessons with reading, writing, and enrichment activities all in one spot. The lessons are separated by grade levels, and there are even some online virtual field trips included. The lessons are divided into weeks and then broken down by days with all of the materials conveniently located together for your student to complete. 

Seneca

Seneca has more to offer for middle school and high school students than it does for younger learners, but they do offer some courses that teach beginning multiplication. For older students, there are courses and reviews on a variety of subjects including algebra, biology, chemistry, language arts, and United States history. 

Duolingo

Duolingo is an app that helps older students and adults learn how to speak a foreign language. There are currently over 35 languages available on the app including Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Italian, and many more. This app is free, but it does have a premium version as well if you so desire. Even with the free version, the short interactive lessons are educational and rewarding. 

PBS Kids

PBS Kids has always been a popular online resource for parents of children in pre-k through fifth grade. There are lots of fun games, episodes, coloring sheets, activities, and more featuring all of your children’s favorite PBS characters. In addition to PBS Kids, there is also an astonishing amount of resources to be found on PBS Learning Media for students in pre-k through high school. The lessons are organized by grade level and subject so that parents can easily find the resources that they need. 

Math Game Time

Math Game Time is a website full of math games for students in pre-k through 7th grade. There are lessons about counting, fractions, multiplication, measurement, and more. The lessons are organized by grade level and subject so that your students can easily find what they need. The games are so much fun they might not even realize that they are learning while they are playing them. 

Khan Academy

Khan Academy has learning resources for students of all ages and that includes parents as well. This free resource helps elementary, middle school, and high school students get a firm grasp on educational concepts and then moves them forward on an individualized learning path. There are test prep lessons and practice tests for the ACT, SAT, and AP exams as well. If you have a young learner age 2 to 7 then you might want to check out Khan Academy Kids for fun, educational activities for them as well. 

America’s Test Kitchen Kids

Not all learning occurs in the classroom so the chefs at America’s Test Kitchen Kids have made all of their kid-friendly recipes, experiments, and projects accessible for free! In addition to the 150 kid-friendly recipes, they already have online they are also releasing new content each week so that kids can get cooking in the kitchen with items you likely already have in your pantry. 

Ballet Lessons with Tiler Peck

Tiler Peck the principal dancer of the New York City ballet has ballet lessons on Instagram Live every day at 1 pm EST. Tiler takes her virtual students through basic stretching and ballet positions, and there is even some pointe work for more advanced dancers at the end of class. 

Debbie Allen Dance Lessons

Debbie Allen is a legend in the dance and choreography world and she is hosting live dance classes featuring different types of dances every weekday at 11 am PST. She frequently has other famous dancers and choreographers join in on the lessons with her so don’t miss it! 

Fender

Do you have a budding musician in your midst? If so, Fender is offering 3 months of guitar, bass, and ukulele lessons for free! The short video lessons can be accessed on any type of device including a phone or laptop, progress is automatically recorded, and students can learn to play songs that they love. Not to mention some of the instructors are world-renowned musicians!
