A guide to keeping on top of your health in 2025

Keeping on top of your health and actively being healthy is so important. When you are looking after yourself, so many different aspects of your life will be affected and not in a bad way, but in a very positive way; when you are being healthy, you’ll feel more positive about yourself, you’ll perform better at work, your mental health will benefit as well as your physical health, not to mention the fact you won’t get ill as much.

When you look into being healthy, there are so many different ways in which you can be healthy. Getting enough sleep, drinking enough water, eating a healthy diet and exercising are four key elements to name a few. Then you have the other areas which can help your health, such as enjoying your hobbies and socialising.

Here’s a brief guide on five ways to keep on top of your health in 2025.

Drink plenty of water

Drinking enough water is something a lot of people struggle to do. On a daily basis, the aim should be to drink around 2 to 3 litres of water, but when you start tracking, you may realise you aren’t managing to do that. There are a few things you can do to drink more. Some people turn to drinking bottled spring water (as this tastes better), others use an app on their phone, or you could buy a 2-litre water bottle and make sure you finish it each day.

Pay attention to your diet

Eating a healthy diet makes a large contribution to your overall health. You may have heard the saying “You are what you eat,” and in many cases, this is very true. When you eat a healthy diet, your body will feel more positive, you’ll be more alert and feel good about yourself. When you are eating an unhealthy diet, you tend to feel more tired, more sluggish, and your motivation levels can dip. Aim to eat five pieces of fruit and vegetables a day and try to cut out unhealthy fats.

Get enough sleep

When you ask around, there is a feeling that so many people don’t get enough sleep each day. The aim should be 7 to 9 hours of sleep a day (this varies, depending on age and gender), and if you’re getting this, you’ll find your health benefits in various ways. Not only will this help your brain function, but it helps your immune system and mental health

We mentioned using an app above for tracking the amount of water you drink; you could also use an app to track your sleep. If you don’t want to use an app on your phone, you could keep a sleep diary in a notebook next to your bed. This way, you can write down how much sleep you are getting and a note about the quality of sleep you feel you had (children, drinking, or an unhealthy diet can all contribute to a bad quality of sleep)

Work on your exercise routine

Exercising is a powerful tool which can help your overall health, including your mental and physical health. When you exercise, you’ll be burning fat, building muscle and helping your heart – all of which are good for your health.

Try to exercise a couple of times a week, and this can be in the form of a solo exercise like running, swimming or cycling. Alternatively, you could join a sports team and play a sport like football, cricket, rugby or basketball. When you join a sports team, you’ll also benefit from meeting new people and hopefully making some new friends. If you are nervous, why not bring a friend or family member with you? This way, they can support you and you can do something together. Having a friend who works out with you helps keep you accountable and reduces the number of sessions you miss, as you don’t want to let them down and not turn up.

Keep enjoying your hobbies

You may initially think, “Why are hobbies included in this guide?” but when you look more into hobbies, you’ll see they help your health in various ways. To start with, when you are doing something you really enjoy, you reduce your stress level. You also make your brain work, helping mental & cognitive functionality, and you will get to see your friends helping with social connections.

A hobby can be anything you enjoy doing, literally anything. It could be playing board games, baking cakes, sewing, playing a musical instrument or going out and doing some photography. As long as you are doing something you enjoy, your overall health will benefit from it.

Stay on top of your health appointments

There are various health appointments that you should be attending each year – some twice a year, others just once. Attending them can be boring and something you may avoid due to being busy, but you should go as they are important for your health, and if you catch something early, it can be easier to treat it (we hope nothing crops up).

A few of the appointments which you should be going to include seeing the dentist, going to the optician’s, having a hearing test and a heart health screening – this isn’t something a lot of people do, but it can spot cardiovascular issues.

We hope our guide has inspired you and given you some actionable points on things you can do to keep on top of your health in 2025. Try and make a couple of changes to your routine and see if you benefit from the changes. Once you have got them as part of your routine, then add a couple more.

What will you be doing differently in the coming months to help your health in 2025? Which of the above recommendations did you find most useful? Is there anything missing in our guide that you think we should be adding? Let us know in the comment box below. We look forward to hearing from you.
