Family Fun on Land, Sea or Air: The world of Remote-Control Toys and Drones
We are benefiting from the rising tide of technology in many ways. It is easier to research any topic, career, course, language, or recipe than ever before. We can communicate with 100 people at the same time, located around the world, with real-time video and audio.
Medical science is advancing as well. There are some hypotheses that the trajectory of medical science improvements will result in our lives being extended beyond 150 years on average, and people who will live that long have already been born. That is fast.
That’s all well and good, but if I am not having fun, why 150? We need to enjoy advancing technology while benefitting from it. Have you ever seen what has happened to the world of remote control or RC planes, cars, and boats? Drone pilots are a big business, this is not just for kids any more.
If you are looking for a hobby to put some youthful fun back into your life, you owe it to yourself to get some adult RC toys.
- RC planes have more thrust than weight, which means they can hover vertically. This allows you to launch and with practice, recover your RC plane by hand. If you are under-skilled in horizontal take-off and landing, put aside your worries and fly one and paint it as Clive Caldwell’s P-40.
- Keeping wheels on the ground with an RC car could be a better idea. The tires will not be on the ground for long, because new-tech RC cars are very powerful. You can kit them out in your favorite Formula One livery.
- Nitro RC cars have small methanol-based engines that allow them to reach speeds that outpace the capacity of my eyes. One blink and they are out of sight. They have a 4×4 Hilux to match your use at home.
- When I think of RC boats, I envision a glassy pond and some slow vessels moving with little control. Not today buddy. Similar to RC cars and 4x4s, RC boats even have nitro or electric options. Large-scale power boats are truly impressive in performance and detail.
- Build a replica HMAS Collins as an electric RC submarine. I have seen RC subs shoot torpedoes. Non explosive of course, but it blew my mind.
If they are going to make us live 150 years, I am going to enjoy more of them.
