Packing for a Day at the Beach – Essential Items to Include
There is no better place to take the kids than a beach with golden sand, yet such an event does require a level of planning and preparation, and with that in mind, we have put together a list to ensure that you all have a great day.

- Sunscreen – The last thing you want is sunburnt children, so make sure you have more than enough high-factor sunscreen and apply liberally; make sure the kids shower in freshwater after a dip in the sea. Monitoring their skin often and wearing a hat is a good idea.
- Hooded towels – Believe us when we say that quality cotton hooded towels are a godsend for the beach, the kids will be protected from the sun; make sure you give the garments a good shake before you pack up to remove all the sand. The online supplier has the best deals and they have a range of styles and sizes.
- Wipes – Carry at least two packs of antiseptic wipes and you are ready for anything, spilt ice cream, soda and cake can all be dealt with. These should be standard for any day out and run out at your peril!
- Mosquito cream – The cream is better than the spray and there are great products made from natural ingredients; early morning and evening are the worst times and always re-apply after a swim. Some people like the mosquito bands that you wear on the arm, although we are not sure how effective they are. Click here for ways to make a holiday truly yours.
- Snacks – If the kids are hungry, pack a few of their favourite snacks, just in case. Of course, make sure you have more than enough drinking water to stay hydrated.
- Change of underwear – We are talking about the kids, of course, just in case of an accident; dry clothes are a must for the return trip home, put all the beachwear in a plastic bag and you are good to go!
- Family first aid kit – Accidents can happen at any time, especially on the beach, aside from bandages, plasters, iodine and cotton pads, you should include cotton earbuds and baby oil to keep the skin moist post sun exposure.
- Sun hats – Whether baseball caps or wide-brimmed hats, the kids should wear something to protect the head and neck. Shade is obviously important, especially for the kids when they play in the sand.
- Refreshments – Ideally, you need a large cooler box filled with goodies, ice, beer and soft drinks to keep everyone happy. Children get thirsty after a couple of hours on the beach, so you need to prepare accordingly.
A little forethought goes a long way when planning a day on the beach and we hope you and your family have a great time and create some amazing memories. Whether Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane, there are some great beaches to choose from.
