If you’re in the process of choosing a pet for your family why not choose a pug? Finding the perfect family dog is not the easiest thing to do, especially as everybody’s going to have a different opinion as to what perfection is. You might feel compelled to choose the easy selection, such as a Labrador or a Gordon Retriever for your family dog, but choosing the right breed that matches your family’s lifestyle and personality is a very important decision to make.

Among the multitude of dog breeds and mixed breeds out there, there’s one that really does stand out for its charm, affection and adaptability, and that’s the Pug. Known for their distinctive looks and unshakable sense of humor, pugs are little dogs with big personalities. Finding the right pug treats, the right pug toys and the right pug food takes some research and time, but that’s true of any dog breed. 1. They’re great with kids. Pugs are naturally friendly dogs, which means that they are the greatest choice to make for a home with a small child. They’re naturally curious, but they are affectionate and playful as a breed, which means that you have a combination of characteristics that makes the Pug perfect family dogs in homes with children. Pugs are quite steadily built too, which means that if your little one is playing too rough, it’s not something you have to worry about. Pugs are scientifically seen as a great breed for little kids because they sleep more than other dog breeds. That means that when it comes round to nap time, you won’t have to worry about your pug keeping the kids awake.
2. They’re not high maintenance enough to need constant attention. Pugs love to spend their time sleeping, which means they only need around 20 minutes of exercise a day. They get on with some more kids, but they do very fine on their own too. They are a naturally sociable breed, but they do love to lay down and sleep and rest whenever they want to. You don’t have to worry about being gone for extended hours during the day because they’re not likely to get anxious. You do have to make sure they do get their walks in though don’t believe that they’re just lazy dogs who will lay down at home.
3. They are so intelligent. When you think of pugs, you might think that they are silly and stupid dogs, but they’re really not. They’re very intelligent dogs. Despite their fun loving demeanor, they are very quick learners and they have the ability to pick up on human emotions and body language. That means they’ll adapt really well to your family’s lifestyle and the way people behave in the house.
4. They have a long life. Pugs have a long life expectancy of up to 15 years, so when choosing the perfect family dog that grows with your kids, picking a pug is actually better than you think. Some dog breeds don’t live very long, but pugs do. They may have a moderate lifespan, but there are breeds out there with much shorter lifespans. All dogs deserve loving lives regardless of their breed, but ultimately you’ll be able to cultivate a deeper relationship with your pug because they have that longer life expectancy.
5. Tiny but tough! A fully grown pug will stand around 13 inches in height, but that doesn’t mean you can’t properly play with your dog. Although Pugs may be short in stature, that doesn’t mean they can’t handle a serious bout of playtime. They are versatile and they love a good game of tug of war and roughhouse. Despite how tiny they are, pugs are a force to be reckoned with. 
6. Pugs are super adaptable. Because they are small in size, you can have them in the city and in an apartment, or you can have them in a giant mansion ready to roam. As long as pugs have a solid living area to run around in, you don’t have to get them jogging across the countryside every day. They’re a great choice if you are starting out as a small family and you want a small dog to raise with your kids. Not every family lives in a suburb, and that’s perfectly fine. Just because you don’t have a conventional lifestyle doesn’t mean you don’t deserve a perfect dog to live with your family.
