Nana’s Almond Squares Recipe

I love to bake and a lot of that love comes from countless hours in the kitchen learning my Nana’s recipes.  One of my family’s favorites are these Almond Squares, and the recipe is written in the back of her cookbook that was passed down to me.

I was able to get all the ingredients to make these sweet treats, thanks to Save A Lot’s amazing prices and their private label products.  I love being able to spend these days before the holiday baking stress free, knowing I stayed on budget.

How to Make Almond Squares

Start by softening the butter, then gradually mix the sugar into the butter.

Next, add the eggs and mix for several minutes, until creamy.

Finally, add the salt, vanilla, almond extract, and flour, and mix until well combined.

Pour batter into a greased pan, cook for 20 minutes.  Next, take the pan out of the oven, and brush on either egg whites or melted butter sprinkle top with shredded coconut and cook for 40 minutes.

These make the entire house smell like warm almonds while they are baking, my favorite part of the holidays is having these in the oven while my family cozies up to watch a holiday movie.
