Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie

Captain Underpants is perfect for a family movie night, with incredible voice talent of both Kevin Hart and Ed Helms.  Also, best of all this film has a lot of heart!  The story explores the great friendship of two boys and their love of writing and creativity.  This is such a great message for kids to see, while they laugh uncontrollably at the outrageous humor.

This movie is receiving A+ reviews and is certified fresh, so make sure you pre-order your copy of the Captain Underpants DVD today!

Snacks:

After we have busted out all the blankets and pillows in the house to create a comfy viewing area in the living room, it’s time to think about the best movie night snacks that are not only delicious for the kiddos, but also easy.  I’m prepping a party amid back to school and sports season, so convenience is important.  I headed to Walmart to stock up on Pop Secret popcorn and Lance crackers, both of which are normal staples in my home and perfect for a movie night party!

You can’t have a movie night without popcorn!  My kids are always pulling out the Pop Secret Movie Theatre Butter Popcorn when ever a DVD enters my home.  We choose Pop Secret because of the great butter taste, it’s delicious and a great quality popcorn.  The bags pop quickly and fully!  So, this will definitely be on our movie night snack bar.

I grabbed 4 packs of red plastic cups for under $1 at Walmart and cut underpants shapes out of cardstock.  Then I simply hot glued the underpants to the cups and filled them with popcorn.  This is a simple way to add some fun to your snack table!

Lance Sandwich Crackers are another snack that we will undoubtedly have on a snack bar table.  Lance has been making little sandwiches for over 100 years with two awesome crackers on the outside with incredible spread in-between.  These cracker packs have been a snack time staple for my family for as long as I can remember.  My Nana used to pack them in her cooler bag whenever my brother and I would go with her to the playground or for a picnic.  Now I always keep these flavorful, wholesome, filling, and portable snacks on hand.  They are perfect for school snacks, on the go, and when I need to keep a group of kids happy.

To start with I grabbed a package of plain white underwear in the boys section of Walmart.  I made sure to get a size that would easily fit over their clothes.
This takes care of the “Underpants” part.

Now for the cape!

You’ll need:
Red Felt by the bolt, 1 Yard easily made 3 capes so have it cut to your preffered length.

Large piece of Black Felt
Large Piece of Yellow Felt
Fabric Scissors
Glue Gun
Printable Template (Underpants / Cape)

Optional:
Velcro (if you’d like to add it to the collar opposed to just have a hole cut open)
Iron on Adhesive (if you want a stronger hold that will last in the washing machine, use iron on adhesive instead of a glue gun)

Create the Capes:

Cut the red felt to your desired length, depending on the ages of your guests.  I went with 24” by 32”.

Print and cut the free printable template.

Fold the felt length wise and trace and cut the capes neck hole and shoulder curves.  Once you have done this, you have a basic felt cape that can be decorated in countless ways.

For the Captain Underpants cape we I traced a large circle with the black felt, using a salad bowl and cut that out along with an underpants shape with the yellow felt.

Next, I hot glued the black circle to the center of the cape.  Then, added the underwear shape to the center of the black felt circle.

The entire process took me about 15 minutes, and if I had chose to use iron on adhesive or Velcro, the process still would have taken less than 30 minutes.
