Areas Of Your Home You’re Forgetting To Clean

How clean is your home? Multiple surveys over the years have identified many areas of the house that are often overlooked when it comes to cleaning and aren’t included in the daily or even weekly cleaning schedule.

By not noticing these often overlooked areas, you might be unintentionally allowing them to contribute to the overall dirtiness of your home. It’s important to plan regular cleaning sprees to give these areas some TLC and bring them up to the same standards as the rest of your home.

So, what are these areas that are often overlooked in home cleaning? By identifying and understanding them, you can take control of your home’s cleanliness and ensure a healthier living environment.

Drains

Typically, most people only pay attention to their drains when they’re blocked or are rather pungent. And when trouble strikes, it can often seem like it’s out of the blue. Regular drain cleaning can help you combat blockages and nasty odors that impact your home and make things smell and feel less than sanitary. So whether you have a blockage or you want to preempt drain issues, talk to expert drain cleaning specialists who can take care of this for you.

Light Fixtures

And also ceiling fans. When was the last time you looked over your light fixture to check it was clean? In many cases, it might be a case of removing dust buildup, meaning a once over with a duster or vacuum can rectify the issue, but in areas like kitchens or even dining rooms, you might need to physically clean the light fitting to remove grease and grime and keep them looking clean.

Trash Cans

Trash cans can become as dirty and grimy as the waste you throw into them. Every once in a while, you should wash your trash can with warm, soapy water to remove any leftover residue or dirt and keep it smelling fresh.

Walls

Walls are often overlooked when it comes to regular household cleaning. How you clean them depends on the type of walls you have and the paint and decor on them. For painted walls, a duster or a wet cleaning wipe might suffice to remove surface dirt. It’s important to be mindful of the color and condition of the wall and don’t use harsh chemicals that can cause damage.

Light Switches and Door Handles

This also includes cabinet handles around the home. All you need to do is grab a damp cloth and wipe around your home, hitting all the light switches and candles you see. Chances are they will only take quick wipes, but more often than not, these parts of the home are overlooked, and they’re places that experience a lot of handling throughout the day.

Remote Controls

Do you have a remote for your TV? Cable services? Remotes for automated appliances? Maybe game controllers, too? Maybe your ceiling fan has a remote or a device for you to turn the HVAC on and off. Yep, you guessed it. These areas also aren’t cleaned as often as they could or even should be.

Throw Pillows

When was the last time you stripped the cases of your throw pillows and washed them? Or, in the absence of them being able to be removed, use upholstery cleaner to freshen them up? If the answer is never, or you’re not sure, add this to your cleaning chores list to get it taken care of.

Above Cabinets

It’s a case of out of sight, out of mind for cabinet tops. How can we actually see what is going on up there without climbing up? Are we right? This is one of the main reasons why they are often not included in cleaning schedules and are left to accumulate dirt and dust. They won’t need cleaning too frequently, but they should definitely make it onto your next cleaning list if you’ve not looked up there for a while.

Laundry Baskets

Like anything else in the home, your laundry baskets can accumulate dirt because they are handled as part of your laundry duties. Frequent touching and being moved from room to room mean they might not be as clean as you think they are, especially those holding dirty laundry. So next time you pick them up to load the washing machine, give your baskets a quick clean, too.

There we go—nine areas of your house you’re probably forgetting to clean but could really use a bit of attention every now and again.
