We are in the middle of a heat wave in Boston, and even the kids are water logged from the pool and choosing to lounge around in the air conditioning.  However I refuse to let them spend their summer stuck in front of a screen.
I want them to use their imaginations, be creative, and when needed follow directions.  Luckily their favorite activity, building with LEGO bricks, allows them to do all that!

Are you planning a move?  We are!  We announced to our family last week that we are are moving down to the Tampa area of Florida!
For the past 5 years or so, my husband and I have debated between moving to South Carolina or Florida, and a couple years ago we took a road trip up and down the east coast and all around Florida, trying to decide on where we wanted to transplant to.  We ended up staying in Massachusetts because I chickened out at the idea of being away from all my family while the kids were so young.  However they have gotten older, and easier, so the move was back on the table.  Then my parents made the sudden decision 6 months ago to make their Florida home, their permanent home.  Suddenly the idea of moving became easier.  My father is home during the day and my mother is working from home so they were able to find us an apartment to transition into and they had already gotten to know the area towns and local establishments.
Plus my brother is only 5 to 6 hours away from Florida in South Carolina, and visits the Tampa area every couple months.  We had been taking a long road trip to South Carolina twice a year over the last few years, so being closer to him is a huge perk.

Spring in here!  I love that the weather is getting warmer and the sun is shining, however it’s also a reminder that I need to get my butt in gear.
The winter months in New England are cold and dull and it is so easy to fall into a mommy slump of comfort food, sweat pants, and messy buns.  We rarely go out in the cold months besides to the grocery store and Target.  So my closet full of clothes just hang there unused and it is easy to not realize that all those beautiful outfits wont be fitting very nicely come summer time because I’ve spent 6 months cooped up watching movies and sitting in the mini van playing chauffeur to different sporting practices.

However spring brings out a sense of new beginnings and fresh starts.  There is something about the weather change that brings out a new sense of energy and ideas.  That new energy and my closet full of clothes that don’t fit are telling me it is time to trade in my sweat pants for work out gear and my comfort food for refreshing fruit and yummy salads.
The first change I make when I pull myself out of a mommy slump is to start taking daily walks.  I can usually build myself up to walking a good 3-5 miles within the first week.  Walking gets me into the mood I need to change my living habits.  It clears my mind, de-stresses me, and just gives me time alone to blast my headphones and sweat out the winter months.
After I get my daily walk locked into my schedule, I add some workouts in a few days a week by either hitting the gym our using some awesome home videos.  Luckily once I start my daily workouts I am able to slim down fairly quickly especially when combined with some healthy food choices.
  However, I have had three kids, and like most mothers I have those stubborn areas that don’t slim down or tighten up as easily as the rest.  A lot of my mommy friends complain about their tummy area and that no matter how many crunches they do nothing seems to change.  However for me, it’s the love-handle area.  I have tried everything from yoga to hula hooping and nothing sheds the inches.
I spend so much time taking care of my husband, my children, my family, friends, home, and work.  I don’t think it’s to much to ask to want to feel good about myself in my own clothes and to be able to sit down without worrying about a big bulge hanging over my pants.

As a busy mom, I am always looking for ways to get things done faster and more conveniently.  Like most moms, one of the ways I get everything accomplished is by doing as many things on the go as possible.  My phone is my life line when it comes to getting things done, I am able to shop, pay bills, work, reschedule appointments, and more right from my phone, whether I’m sitting at dance practice or in at a doctors office.  Because I use my phone for so many aspects of my everyday mommy life, I love finding new apps that help me get things done smoother and faster.

How I am Staying Prepared this Winter While Cutting My Bills!

Have you ever been blind sided by a snow storm?  I was last week, and it wasn’t fun!  
We have decided to go without cable until our move over the summer in an attempt to slim down our bills and avoid getting locked into a 12 month commitment which would result in a hefty cancellation fee when we move out of state.  

Over the last month this decision seemed to transition smoothly, with all the great subscription services to choose from we easily cut our bill by over 75%.  However I didn’t think about the weather report while making this change.  I’m a New Englander, I am used to crazy weather.  I can wake up with the heat pumping, switch it over to air conditioning before my coffee is finished and switch it back and forth more times than I can count during the course of a day.  Unfortunately the beginning of this winter had me spoiled.  After last years winter filled with what seemed to be a blizzard every week, I somehow thought we were squeaking by this winter without being snowed in.  It is only February but the 70 degree temperatures left me thinking spring was right around the corner and I had pulled all the kids snow gear out for nothing this year.  Well the joke was on me, because last Thursday night I got a phone call saying schools would be canceled Friday because of the impending storm.  WHAT?  Friday was my planned grocery shopping day, Lilly still needed boots, and I was home alone with 3 kids at 8 o’clock at night!  
Now I’m not the crazy person standing in line at the store with bottled water and bread after the thought of a few inches of snow, but being stuck in the house for a couple days with 3 kids and no snacks or hot chocolate sent me into a mini panic attack.  I ended up dragging three kids out to the store, which I always avoid at all costs, and grabbed what we needed to get everyone excited about the snow.

Luckily while stuck in the house during our unplanned snow day, I learned about the SnowCast app.  The SnowCast app is a great app that I quickly downloaded onto my iPhone, it instantly calculated my location, and now is able to tell me when it will snow and how much we will be getting.  I can easily pull up the app and see not only if we will be getting snow, but also how much and when it will start up to 48 hours in advance.  Plus it sends me alerts for NOAA winter weather warnings and advisories, so I will never be blindsided by the lovely New England weather again.
Which was put to the test when mother nature decided to give us a pre winter vacation 4 day weekend, with a second snowstorm on Monday.  Thankfully I knew about the storm as we were digging out from Friday’s storm and was able to run back out for cereal and movies on Sunday while the kids built snowmen with Daddy.

Make Time for You in 2016 by Finding Your Fringe Hours!

Happy 2016 everyone!  I can’t believe we are already midway through January.  I love this time of year, while I certainly hate the weather in New England in January, I love the fresh start rhythm that is in the air.

While I haven’t necessarily made any New Years resolutions this year, I do have countless goals and aspirations for 2016 and beyond.  
My health took a nose dive during most of 2015.  My kidneys decided that I should be in pain for over 6 months when an infection ended up being resistant to over 7 doses of different antibiotics.  Then with the stress of this, combined with my increasing back pain from the extra weight gain, it caused numerous fibro flair ups.  Needless to say, I didn’t get a lot of what I had hoped to done in 2015.  
As we range in the New Year, I looked around at my house that was in shambles from shotty cleaning, realized my inbox was exploding with hundreds of emails that needed to be sorted, and lets not discuss the brassy color my hair had become from not maintaining it.
I felt like I failed at 2015!  However 2016 will be better, no it will be great!
I have taken better control of my health by meeting with different specialists.  I have gotten back involved with the kids schools, and am back to being that feared “Autism Mom” that knows her children’s rights and holds the system accountable.  I have spent everyday cleaning and decluttering.  And best of all I have gotten back to being the fun mom who bakes, crafts, and snuggles.  I am feeling the old me coming back and its only 2 weeks into the year.
However with all these aspects of my life falling back on track, I have noticed one thing that was still falling through the cracks, Me.  At the end of a long and busy day packed with school meetings, cleaning, grocery shopping, and activities with the kids, suddenly realizing you hadn’t done anything all day to refresh your own spirit, can be draining.
