Museum of Fine Arts Boston

I talked about the Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum as the best place to find some history in Boston, Today I want to share the best place to find some art and culture in the city.  The Museum of Fine Arts is an enormous museum, literally, we walked over 3 hours and didn’t see everything, that is full of amazing art and cultural artifacts from all over the world.

As we walked in we were in awe of the incredible wall art and the staircase.  It was simply breathtaking!

Anthony loves to soak in as much about each exhibit as possible, so we didn’t get through the entire 4 floors of the museum.  However he has been asking about going back ever sense our visit so we will be making another trip over summer vacation.

During this visit we spent a lot of time in “Art of the Ancient World” section because like most 10 year old boys, Anthony thought the mummies were the most weird and interesting thing to see.
This section also had some beautiful sculptures, coins, jewelry and more.
We also really enjoyed the “Art of Europe” and “Art of Asia, Oceania, and Africa sections.
This is definitely a museum that is full of educational opportunities and unique unique exhibits.  Certainly a must see in Boston!
My Top Tips for Visiting the Museum of Fine Arts with Children:
1. Plan ahead, take a look at the museum’s map online and decide what you would most like to see.
2. Prep the kids about the museum rules before you go.  Let them know this is more of “look but don’t touch” museum
3. Stop by the Sharf Visitor Center and get a free family activity tote bag.  It is filled with activity cards, pencils, and a sketchpad to help make the visit more entertaining.
4. The museum is huge, especially for little legs, so take it slow and let them enjoy looking at all the beautiful pieces.
5. Take brakes, if your planning on seeing most of the museum in one visit, stop and take breaks.  Both the Garden Cafeteria and the Shapiro Family Courtyard offer kid friendly food options.
6. Consider visiting during a MFA Playdate on the first and third Monday of every month.
