Five Ways to Make Dental Hygiene Fun! #TheraBreathKids

This is a sponsored post on behalf of The Motherhood,  All opinions are my own.

WAYS TO MAKE BRUSHING FUN!

Taking care of our teeth from a young age is very important.  Cavities are painful, dentist bills can be very expensive, poor hygiene causes bad breath, and uncared for teeth can result in some scary health issues.  So, starting our children off young, with good oral hygiene skills is imperative.  However, it’s not always the easiest parenting task.

Teaching kids to follow a dental hygiene routine can be hard, getting them to enjoy taking care of their teeth without any fuss, can seem nearly impossible at times.  Luckily, I’ve compiled a list of some easy things you can do that will have kids asking to brush their teeth.

Five Tips to Make a Dental Hygiene Routine Fun

Sing Songs and Make the Bathroom a Fun Area

I would bring my children to the bathroom sink singing some of their favorite songs, and danced as we put on the tooth paste and flossed.  Showing the kids that we could have fun as they brushed their teeth helped tremendously.

Use a Timer

Letting the kids see exactly how much time they have left to brush or swish mouthwash helps them know they only must do it for a short time and they can watch how quick the time is passing.  We use a sand timer our dentist gave us; however, I have seen some fun musical and light up ones.

Get Kids Fun Toothbrushes

Toothbrushes are available in practically every color and feature countless character options.  Let your child pick out a fun toothbrush that they love and they will likely want to use it all the time.  I know whenever we buy new toothbrushes, I don’t have to remind even my oldest son to brush.

Give Rewards

Remember as a child being able to go in the treasure chest after a good dentist appointment?  It sure did make me want to keep my teeth clean for next time.  Rewards work, try using stickers as a reward for each day they do a great job taking care of their teeth.

Choose a Great Tasting Mouthwash

Mouthwash helps prevent cavities and keeps kid’s teeth healthier.  But in order get children to successfully swish for the time needed, the mouthwash must taste great.  We started using TheraBreath for Kids! Oral Rinse and the kids can’t get enough of it.  The yummy grape flavor keeps them swishing for the full minute as directed.  TheraBreath Kids is a healthy mouth wash option for children 6 and older.

5 Ways to Celebrate Spring with Oshkosh B’gosh!

This post is sponsored by Everywhere Agency on behalf of OshKosh B’gosh; however, all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

Oshkosh-Spring-3

After a long cold winter, there is nothing better than the sight of a tulip popping through the soil, or the racks of bright clothing being displayed at your favorite stores.  Knowing things are growing, the weather is improving, and the days are getting long brings us joy and energy.
So let’s celebrate!  Here’s 5 ways we plan to celebrate spring.

Oshkosh-Spring-1

Ways to Celebrate Spring!

Splash in a Puddle
“April Showers bring May Flowers” so let’s celebrate those gloomy days, knowing the sunshine is right around the corner.  Put on a pair of rainboots and let the kids jump in the biggest puddles they can find.

Plant a Garden
Nothing feels springier than a bright bouquet of flowers.  Enjoy a beautiful spring day outside in the sun planting a pretty flower bed with the kids.  Make it as colorful as possible with a variety of Daisies, Tulips, and Sun Flowers.

Get Active Outside
After spending the winter cooped up inside, it feels great to be able to get your heart pumping in the fresh air on a sunny day.  Go for walks after dinner, take the kids on a bike ride, or head to the neighborhood playground.

Have a Picnic
Pack up some sandwiches, a blanket, and maybe some bubble or sidewalk chalk and head to the beach or a local park for a picnic.  Eat outside, play, read, just enjoy the slower pace and the fresh air while soaking in some vitamin D.

Get New Clothes
With spring comes spring cleaning, that magical time when we get to open all the windows and let the air in.  When we purge all the things we don’t need any more and get rid of all the clutter in the house.  I love the feeling I get walking into my house during the months of spring.  After spending at least, a week deep cleaning everything, the house feels fresh and welcoming.
However, with my big annual purge, I end up dropping bags and bags of kid’s clothes for donation.  All the outdated and outgrown clothes go out the door, and all the heavier fall and winter clothes get boxed up till next year.  This can leave the kid’s closets looking bare, so we like to take an annual shopping trip to freshen up their wardrobes.
We all load into the car and head out for a fun day of shopping.  There is a lot of outdoor shopping centers close to us, and the spring weather makes them perfect.  Not to hot when you are lugging shopping bags around and not to cold when you want to sit at the play area.
The first and most of the time only store we need is Oshkosh B’gosh.  I remember my mother shopping there when I was a kid, so of course once I became a mom myself, Oshkosh became my go to store.
They have age appropriate clothes, that are comfortable and come in styles my picky kids love.  Plus it has a huge convenience factor, I can buy all the kids clothes, shoes, and accessories in one spot at affordable prices and a great variety.  I can buy everything I need from dress up outfits for church, to play clothes.
Oshkosh-Spring-14
On my last trip to Oshkosh, I bought Lilly and Aidan each 2 outfits.  For the first outfits, I chose bright colored pieces with fun patterns, that screamed spring.

Oshkosh-Spring-11

Aidan can’t get enough of this shark shirt.  He has worn it so many times that I haven’t been able to get it back in his closet, he grabs it as soon as he sees it coming out of the dryer.

Oshkosh-Spring-12

Lilly loves her “Pink Outfit” because it’s her favorite color and she loves anything bright girly.  I love that Oshkosh’s shorts have a decent inseam, for little girls!

Oshkosh-Spring-13

For the second outfits, I went with more dressy styles.  The kids have a lot of school functions in the spring as well as church on Sunday’s so they always need some nice dress up options.

Oshkosh-Spring-7

When I saw the pink boy shorts, I needed them!  They are so cute!  The plaid shirt coordinates perfectly, and the sleeves roll up so he can wear it all year long.

Oshkosh-Spring-4

Lilly got a pretty denim colored dress with a rope belt. It coordinates well with Aidan’s outfit and she is always asking to wear dressed, so I liked that this one was casual enough to wear anywhere.

Oshkosh-Spring-9

The kids loved every style they saw, so I will surely be visiting Oshkosh again soon to stock up on fun spring and summer essentials.  Are you ready to freshen up your child’s wardrobe?  Now’s the time, we have a coupon just for you!   Use Online Coupon Code OKBG3270 and code 036602 in stores (click on the coupon below to print) to save 25% off $40+ purchase!

Blueberry Shortcake Recipe with Fresh From Florida

This post was sponsored by Fresh From Florida as part of an Influencer Activation for Influence Central, however all opinions expressed are my own.

Beige Ice Cream Photo Recipe Pinterest Graphic

Living in Florida has been fantastic for my taste buds!  The hot weather makes my family crave fresh fruit and veggies, and Florida delivers during every season.

Florida Farmers make it so easy for everyone to eat fresh produce year around!  Within a 5-mile radiance, there are over a dozen farmers markets held on various days of the week, and in Florida something delicious is always in season!  My favorite is the Dunedin Downtown Market, I love the quaintness of Dunedin with the cute shops and restaurants, and this market is held in the center of town so we can shop for our weeks produce and then enjoy a morning stroll around town.

One of my family’s favorite treat is Blueberry Shortcake, it combines one of our favorite fruits and an indulgent biscuit with whip cream.
We like to make this to enjoy after Sunday dinner or for breakfast on special mornings.  The only problem I encounter with this recipe is that if I shop with my children, the blueberries never make it home.

Being new to Florida, I was used to digging through a carton and finding a few big juice blueberries surrounded by small sour ones.  So, when I bought my first package of berries in Florida, I ate them all in less than 10 minutes and had to go back to the farm stand to get more for the kids.  Every blueberry was plump and sweet!  So now whenever I shop, I always look for the Fresh From Florida label on produce, seafood, and even wine!

Want to try some delicious Blueberry Shortcake?  Here’s the recipe:

Blueberry Jam Directions:

In a medium sauce pan simmer 1 1/3 cups of Blueberries. 1/2 cup of Sugar. and Lemon Juice on medium heat for 8 minutes.

Once the blueberries have softened and the mixture has a syrup like look, Mix in 2/3 cups of Blueberries.  Remove from heat and let cool.

Cream Directions:

My kids love cool whip, and I love shortcuts, so we use cool whip instead of making a whip cream from scratch.  However, this can easily be swapped out for any whip cream you like.

Take 1 1/2 cups of Cool Whip and fold in 1 Tbsp. of Sugar and 1/2 Tsp of Vanilla Extract.

Once everything is cooked and cooled down, it’s time to assemble.
Cut the shortcake biscuit in half.
Spread the whip cream on both sides of the biscuit and add a large spoonful of the Blueberry Mix.

Fresh-from-florida-blueberry-shortcake-recipe-easy-biscuits-from-scratch

Put the Biscuit back together, and add a dollop more of whip cream to the top of the shortcake with another spoonful of Blueberry Mix.
If you haven’t eaten all the left-over Blueberries yet, you can add a few to garnish the plate.

That’s all, a yummy, almost from scratch, delicious dessert!
What is your favorite was to cook with fruit?

Smurfs: The Lost Village in Theaters April 7th! #SmurfsMovie

Smurfs3_COPPA_wallpaper_1024x768

Both my husband and I grew up watching the Smurfs, so now every time a new Smurfs movie comes out we love being able to watch our kids enjoy the character we grew up adoring.

Last weekend my family was able to prescreen the newest Smurfs film that is set to be released on April 7th, Smurfs: The Lost Village.  This Smurfs movie is honestly my favorite movie to date!

About the Movie:
In this fully animated, all-new take on the Smurfs, a mysterious map sets Smurfette and her best friends Brainy, Clumsy and Hefty on an exciting and thrilling race through the Forbidden Forest filled with magical creatures to find a mysterious lost village before the evil wizard Gargamel does. Embarking on a rollercoaster journey full of action and danger, the Smurfs are on a course that leads to the discovery of the biggest secret in Smurf history!

Our Thoughts:
When leaving the theater all three children exclaimed “Smurfs: The Lost Village is the best Smurfs movie we’ve seen!”  and I have to agree.  It was jam packed with just enough comedy, drama, happy, and heart breaking moments to keep everyone’s attention locked on the screen.  I didn’t have to tell either twin to “shhhh” once, that tells you how much they enjoyed it!

This is a movie I definitely recommend for families this Spring!  It’s Smurftastic!
