Oven Dried Apple Rings Recipe

Oven Dried Apple Rings

These Oven-Dried Apple Rings are the perfect snack without worrying about any type of additives or sugar!

As a mom, I’m always on the lookout for healthy snacks. I swear I’ve spent countless hours reading, researching and scouring the local stores trying to find something that wasn’t packed full of sugar and other words that I can’t even pronounce.

One day, I got tired of it all and decided that it couldn’t be that hard to make my own snacks for our kids. Lo and behold, I was right! These Oven-Dried Apple Rings are literally just two ingredients and are always a hit with my kiddos when I make them!

The key to this recipe is to make certain to choose an apple that is already naturally sweet. That way, you don’t have to add anything to it to bring out those flavors because that part is already built right into that super sweet and juicy apple.

Once you find that apple of your choice, you let the oven do its magic. With a little patience, you’ll have the most amazing tasting oven-dried apple rings that’ll send your taste buds into overdrive. And your kiddos will love them so much, they may actually start requesting them on a consistent basis!

How to Make Apple Rings

Wash the apples then core and slice them into 1/4 inch rings. Using a Mandolin makes this process a lot easier.

Discard top and bottom rings with the most skin on them.

Prevent browning by dropping apples into a bowl with the lemon juice and 2 cups of water.
Dry the apples on a clean kitchen towel then lay slices on wire racks over baking sheets.
Dry the Apples in the oven for 2-10 hours on low heat (140 degrees F), turning occasionally.
Dry longer for crisp slices, and less for soft slices.
Remove the slices from the oven and allow to cool completely before storing in sterilized airtight jars in a dark cool place.

Lilly’s Curly Hair Solutions

Lilly has very curly hair and a lot of it.  I have wavy to straight fine hair, so dealing with Lilly’s hair can stress me out completely.  Especially when the tangles become huge matted knots and she’s screaming while I’m combing it out.
After a few years and countless products tried, tested and failed, I have found products I love and use everyday to control her curls and keep her hair looking pretty.

1. I shampoo her hair with Johnson’s Extra Conditioning Shampoo, it’s gentle on her hair and it doesn’t dry out her hair or add to the tangles.
2.  For conditioner I use the Aussie Moist 3 Minute Miracle Mask and leave it on while she plays in the tub.
3.  To comb and brush out her hair, I use a Wet Brush, I bought this after it was recommended by my hair dresser and it has been the best thing I’ve bought for her hair.  She no longer cries or screams when I have to detangle knots, and she says this brush doesn’t hurt her at all.
4.  I braid her hair for bed to avoid tangles and she wears ponytails a lot to school to keep it out of her way.  I use foe elastic hair ties on her hair and mine, the are soft and stretch.  Plus they don’t break or pull on her hair at all.  We make our own for pennies, I’ll post a tutorial next week.  However their also available almost everywhere relatively cheap.
5. As I comb out Lilly’s hair I use Paul Mitchell’s The Conditioner leave-in conditioner.  I have been using this for a couple years and I love how it keeps her hair soft and helps detangle it.
6. When she’s wearing her hair down I twirl her curls with my fingers and use Curly Hair Solutions silk leave-in treatment.  I found this several months ago when the company sent a bottle to me to review and I loved how it helped define Lilly’s curls perfectly without any stiffness.

VeggieTales Beauty and the Beet DVD Starring Kellie Pickler Review and Giveaway + Free Printables

*I received a free copy of this movie to help facilitate this review, all opinions are 100% my own*
As I’ve talked about in the past, my family and I are big VeggieTales fans and we weren’t let down with Beauty and the Beet.  This was an adorable movie focusing on unconditional love and compassion.  The music was fun and catchy, Lilly was singing the songs all over the house and the boys loved Bob tomato chef.

About the Film:

Mirabelle’s kindness extends to Finnegan J. Beet, the bitter and lonely owner of a rundown mountaintop resort where Mirabelle’s family breaks down en route to their biggest concert ever. Matching the Beet’s heartless actions with her own genuinely sweet nature, Mirabelle proves that just as God loves us all whether we deserve it or not, unconditional love is its own reward.
In addition to Mirabelle and Mr. Beet, the zesty supporting cast includes Bob the Tomato, Larry the Cucumber, Jimmy the Gourd, the French Peas and a host of other favorite veggies.

The unmistakable voice of Mirabelle, the sweet potato is played by Country Music Super Star Kellie Pickler!

VeggieTales also has a large selection of Free Printables available on their website to go along with the film.

Easy and Delicious Mini Biscuit Pizza Recipe for Kids

Mini Biscuit Pizza Recipe for Kids

Biscuit Pizza Recipe

If everyone in your house loves their own varied toppings on their pizzas, these Mini Biscuit Pizzas are just what you need! No more having to choose because everyone gets their own!

In our house, we all love different pizza toppings. Some prefer pepperoni, some sausage, and every once in a while, there will be the occasional request for some mushrooms and onions thrown in there. I don’t have the time or energy to make a million different pizzas, so this is where this Mini Biscuit Pizza recipe totally rocks.

Everyone can take their own baked biscuits and then create the pizza of their dreams. It seriously cannot get any easier than that. No more voting or arguing over what type of pizza…it’s the best!

Plus, they are the perfect bite size. They are small enough to hold in one hand but filling enough that you won’t need to eat three or four in one sitting. But if you do…watch the shock on the face of your family and friends as you tell them that you ate 4 pizzas all by yourself in one sitting. They’ll be amazed and perplexed all at once.

Have an awesome pizza night with these fun mini biscuit pizzas!
