Family Travel Fun at the Sheraton Springfield and Six Flags New England

Starwood sponsored our recent trip to the Sheraton Springfield  Monarch Place Hotel for a family vacation to Six Flags New England.  We live in Massachusetts, however Six Flags is a two hour drive west for us.  I hadn’t been to the park sense before Anthony was born because of the long drive.  After a long fun day at an amusement park, who wants to drive 2 hours home with 3 tired and cranky kids!  The Sheraton Springfield is now our resolution to that problem, a family friendly, reasonably priced, CLEAN hotel, that is only 10 minutes away from Six Flags New England!

We arrived at the hotel after spending the day at the Hurricane Harbor, Six Flag’s water park.  Check-in was a breeze, the staff was super friendly and we were in our room within minutes.  We had a king guest room with a connecting double queen guest room.  These worked perfectly for our family of five!

If you are a bit hungry after the park or want a great breakfast to start your day off, the hotel has plenty to offer you on site.  Room service is always a fun option and the hotel has a full room service menu, My kids were particularly fond of the chocolate brownies.  The MVP pub is on site for lunch, dinner, or dessert and a cocktail.  We ate breakfast at PICKS restaurant which is also on site.  The food at picks was phenomenal!  If you are a French toast fan, you have to try the bananas foster French toast it was very good.  Antonio got the New England lobster eggs benedict and he loved it also.
Sheraton Club Level guests also have access to a complimentary continental breakfast and evening hors dourves in the Sheraton Club.  Which may I add was also the perfect spot for my husband to sneak away and grab the sports scores during our stay, without changing the TV’s in our rooms that the kids were watching.
Our kids weren’t water logged from the day at the park so once we checked in and ate, their minds were focused on finding the swimming pool.  The indoor pool is located adjacent to the fitness center and pool towels are provided.  I liked that the sliding doors led right out to a large outdoor sundeck.  We sat out on the sundeck at night and enjoyed the refreshing summer night air with the city lights and stars.  The kids weren’t thrilled about the stars, they were all about swimming and jumping around the pool.
The architecture within the hotel was fun, the boys loved the openness of the hallways and the different colored  changing lights that shined from the balconies.

After a relaxing night poolside, we got to get a restful night sleep that made it easy to have another great day at the park.

One of the best things I noticed was check out isn’t until noon time.  This may seem like a minor benefit, however my family has traveled a lot this summer as you can see from this blog and every hotel we have stayed at has had a 11:00 or even 10:00 check out time.  As a traveling mom with little kids, the hardest part of traveling for me is usually check out.  Getting the room packed up, 3 kids dressed, everything in the car, and trying to get myself presentable before 10:00 in the morning after a fun touristy night is not fun at all.  The extra hour to two the Sheraton gave me was a breath of fresh air.  I was able to wake up, have my coffee, pack, even eat breakfast before leaving!  This alone was enough to win my heart.

All in all, this hotel is a great option when looking for a family friendly place to stay within minutes of Six Flags New England Amusement Park, The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, The Big E fair, the MassMutual Center, Dr. Suess National Memorial Sculpture Garden, and more.
I never realized how many fun things there were to do in the Pioneer Valley, I cant wait to go back and explore more!

Dino Land, Curious George, and Much More at Edaville USA

I had not been to Edaville USA sense I was a child, but I still have memories of enjoying the park with my Nana.
This park is a wholesome small family park, its not a huge amusement park, its something completely different, and that is what stole my heart about this park.
As you walk through the gates, there is fishing in the pond, several smaller amusement rides, places to eat and relax as a family, and of course the train rides.

Each weekend Edaville USA has a different theme and event at the park.  The first weekend we attended the park was having a breakfast and meet and greet with Curious George and the Man in the Yellow Hat.
The newest attraction at Edaville USA is Dino Land.  Anthony is a huge science and dinosaur fan so this was where he wanted to be the entire time.  Dino Land is a cute area with a skeleton dig, gift shop, games, and a walking trail to see all the dinosaurs.
My favorite part of Edaville USA was walking through the main area which truly reminded me of the simple times in my childhood.  Not many things have changed at Edaville through the generations but the park has still remained a beautiful place to spend an afternoon with your family.

I am very excited to be visiting again in the fall and best of all at Christmas time!  The lights and trains during the Christmas season still remains in my heart after all these years and I can not wait to experience them again through the eyes of my babies!

Great Wolf Lodge New England ~ Beyond the Waterpark

*Disclosure: We received a complementary stay to help facilitate this post, as always all opinions are 100% my own*
When I started thinking about our Great Wolf Lodge getaway I was excited for the water slides and the lazy river.  I couldn’t wait to get wet in the water parks!  However I had no idea how many other exciting things there were to do at GWL!
Here are just some of the fun activities:
The Rope Course at Howlers Peak – this was an awesome rope course where kids and parents are harnessed in and get to climb, walk, and balance on all sorts of ropes.
Plus if your child isn’t tall enough or a bit scared of the big course, they have a miniature version for them!
Scoops Kid Spa – what little girl wouldn’t want to sit on a banana split chair, eat ice cream, get a pedicure, and wear a tiara and pink comfy robe?  This is a girly girls dream come try!  Mani, pedi’s and chocolate facials plus tons of pretty pink products to purchase.
Northern Lights Arcade – GWL New England also has a huge arcade with state of the art games!  I liked that there’s no quarters involved, you put money on a paw points card and swipe it for every game.  I got one for each of the kids and let them jump around from game to game.
Creation Station at the Great Wolf Kids Store – This is where you create your own stuffed animal or pillow.  We decided to do this one night right before the night time show and bedtime story, and it was perfect.  We got great pictures of the kids with their new stuffed animal characters watching the show, plus after the story they were ready to head up to the room and snuggle with their new friends and fall asleep.  The Great Wolf Kids Store also had color your own shirts and other activities that the kids thought were “very cool”!
MagiQuest – I had never heard of MagiQuest before visiting Great Wolf Lodge, but once there it’s all I heard about!  The kids quickly became obsessed once they saw other kids running around with magic wands.  The paw pass includes a basic wand choice and the game itself,  however you can also purchase a cool wand topper, cape, costume, wand holder and more.  We let the kids get a special topper and cape.  They carried their wands everywhere throughout the entire stay and the capes only came off when I told them they weren’t allowed in the water park!  The purpose of the game is to find different items and complete different quests and adventures throughout the resort.
Glitz Glitter Tattoos – A sparkly temporary tattoo kiosk
In the Lobby – There are countless activities in the resort’s lobby everyday and night!  From face painting and origami to wolf walks and bedtime stories, there is always some fun to be had.
Howlywood XD theater – this is a fun 6D ride/theater, the films are approximately 10-15 minutes long.  You get to choose the movie you would like to watch, there was 3 to choose from during our visit.  Then you buckle into your seat, put on the 3D glasses and enjoy the ride.
That’s not all, there is also Lazer Frenzy lazer tag, the Howl at the Moon mini golf course, Ten Paw bowling alley, and more!
Certainly enough to fill your vacation with tons of special memories!

Liquid Planet Water Park and Zip Lines ~ Candia New Hampshire

*Disclosure:  My family received free admission to Liquid Planet to help facilitate this post – All opinions are 100% my own!*
We had a great day at Liquid Planet in Candia NH recently.  I was shocked that I had never heard of this great little water park prior to planning this visit!
Liquid Planet is a small family owned park that has several great attractions geared towards families with younger kids.  As we walked in passing the admissions gate, there was a gift shop on one side where we signed up for our zip line time, and a concession area on the other side.  Straight in the middle of the park was a large splash pad with small slides, water squirters, and tons of splashing room.  As a mom of little ones, I loved that I could sit on one of the surrounding chairs and see the entire main area of the park, from the gift shop down to the larger water slides.
As part of our visit we received a cabana rental,  and these are awesome for families heading to the park for the whole day.  Its great to have a spot where everyone can come back too and relax in the shade or eat lunch.
The park has a small swimming pool just beyond the splash pad, along with 4 water slides.  Two intense water slides that appear to drop straight down, called “The Shooting Stars”, along with 2 slower paced slides.
After spending several hours in the main park area letting the little run around the splash pad while Anthony enjoyed the slides we headed down to the water hole called “Crater Lake.  This was a small man made water hole with a sanded beach, raft to jump off, and water slide inside.  They also have tubes floating around for kids to play with or for parents to relax on.
After all this water fun, it was time for a zip line adventure!
The whole family had a blast staying cool on a hot summer day and the best thing was there wasn’t any huge crowds or long lines.  I love the idea of a smaller family water park like Liquid Planet!
